The Pause Subscription Box

The Pause Box, a book & a cuppa

Another month, another subscription box! Taking a break from the fabulous Vintage Boxed, I have chosen a subscription to try that is very close to my heart – the ‘Pause’ box from the charity Mind.

Mental Health

One in four people will experience a mental health problem every year, according to the charity. At this point, I think every single person will have dealt with mental health issues, if not directly, then a family member or friend.
I try to talk about my mental health quite openly, as it is a still a conversation that needs to be normalised in today’s society. But even now, after going through so much in the last few months and knowingly suffering for it, I still struggle to be honest with others and myself!

Whenever I have tried to deal with my mental health, I always turn to the Mind website; it helps me feel not so alone. I also visit the site when I want to try and help family or friends. It is such a fantastic charity and it will always be one I want to support. This is why I decided to try out the ‘Pause’ subscription box!

About the Box

The ‘Pause for Mind’ subscription box is a monthly subscription, designed to boost your mental wellbeing, costing only £7.50. It also acts a donation for the charity itself – ‘by signing up for Pause, you’re helping Mind provide a lifeline for those of us experiencing mental health problems’.

In todays very busy climate, it is difficult to find the time to sit and take a moment for yourself. Although I was a little sceptical (if I’m honest), I did find that this little box helped me sit down and pay attention to myself.

What’s in the Box?

The Pause Box

This months box had a ‘reading’ theme; after a few weeks off work, I know that reading is a powerful tool for mindfulness and wellbeing! This box contained…

  • some information about how the box works
  • a little notebook full of inspiring and mindful quotes of each page
  • an activity – to help you learn a new skill, to encourage relaxation, creativity and reflection
  • a ‘pause for thought’ card – to encourage you to embrace relaxing, creative and mindful activities

The ‘pause for thought’ card kept with the theme and advises reading can be a great distraction and can reduce stress, It’s also a good way to connect with other people – discussing and sharing books. Socialising is of course good for your mental health!

The activity in the box this month was to learn a new skill – how to make a pom-pom bookmark. I thought this was a bit of a strange task to put in a subscription box, but actually it was good fun to make and I feel like I learnt something new!

Learning: The Pom-Pom Bookmark

Pom-Pom making kit

To learn this new skill, the box came with two pom-pom templates and a little ball of wool. The instructions were simple and easy to follow. Apart from fighting with the cat over the ball of wool, I found the task calming and fun! It reminded me of the mindfulness technique I learnt while meditating. It is also a really lovely feeling to have something new and know that you have made it yourself – a feeling of accomplishment! Plus, I used to collect bookmarks, now I have a new special addition!
If there is a similar task in next month box, I will make sure to sit down with a cup of tea for a moment of quiet.

I really enjoyed this subscription; because it is quite inexpensive and is for such a good cause I will be continuing to subscribe. Not only for the benefits to others through donating, but also for the benefit of my own wellbeing.
I will continue to find new subscription boxes to review on Anchors & Swallows, perhaps I will review the following Pause boxes on my Instagram.

What do you think of this box? What subscriptions would you like to see on Anchors & Swallows?
