CHC Vintage: True Vintage Review

CHC Vintage Pink Knit Dress

My true vintage collection is ever growing. You may have gathered by now that I am always on the look out for new vintage pieces. True vintage is really one of a kind and for me, I love having a little piece of history. I always think about an items story – where it might have come from, who owned it etc. The hunt for vintage is endless really – you can continue to look all over the world! So when CHC Vintage approached me to try some of their garments, I was more than happy to oblige!

What is CHC Vintage?

CHC Vintage (or ‘Crazy Hot Clothes!), are a personalised vintage box and subscription service, based in Pittsburg, PA (USA). They have a variety of products on offer, from a ‘vintage sweater box’ to a whole ‘vintage vacation planner box’! They were founded in 2016 and have been sending out their boxes of vintage goodies worldwide ever since. Among the various boxes and products, they offer a vintage dress subscription – read on for more!

They have an extensive survey to gain insight into your own style, so that the stylists can search and hand pick the items they think will best suit you.
Each order comes with a personalized and handwritten styling card, giving each customer styling suggestions for their particular pieces. They also advised me that when possible, they like to include the history on the pieces or on the labels that they send. As a history fanatic, I love this!

The Rose Knit Dress

As soon as I saw this dress, there was no doubt that I would enjoy wearing it. The slight flare shape was very reminiscent of the late 30’s/40’s, with knitted dresses being popular at this time. Once I styled the dress, I felt it had a 1950’s feel to it – perhaps it was the ‘sweater’ detailing on the top! I paired it with my own nude skinny belt to cinch in the waist and added some cream ballet pumps.

The style card included with my dress suggested pairing it with a denim jacket for a more casual look. While I love to dress in a 40’s – 50’s style, I do like to dress more ‘modern’ on occasion; having a garment that can do both is quite exciting. They also suggested pairing with heels for a more formal occasion, which I agree can be done with this particular dress.
CHC also advised that this dress could work almost all year round – I have to agree with them!

The dress was very comfortable to wear – it did have some stretch to it but it wasn’t clingy or unflattering. I’m not the biggest fan of my hips, but I really like the way this dress looked on me. The sizing was perfect too!
The dress is made of 85% acrylic, so of course it isn’t a typical wool knit dress. I think this has helped keep it in such good condition – it’s pretty perfect to be honest.

The stylists at CHC Vintage were spot on with the survey I submitted to them – I really appreciated the subtle detailing and style of the dress, as I don’t typically go for strong vintage prints. I found that I received a lot of compliments when wearing this dress out and about!
While some of my vintage garments are saved for particular occasions, I will certainly be reaching for this dress again soon.

The Verdict

I really couldn’t be happier with the service and the dress I have received. Subscriptions can be such a risk in a way, especially with vintage, but the personal service that CHC Vintage offers really shines through – the little card their sent with the dress was so thoughtful!

The vintage dress subscription retails from $115, from 3 months (approx. $38 a month) onwards. For the service and the true vintage dress itself, I think this is spot on. They also offer free shipping within the US, but as I mentioned earlier, they do ship around the world.

I am looking forward to seeing what CHC Vintage have picked out for me next month!
