A few months ago, during one of my many scrolls through Instagram one evening, a certain post happened to catch my eye. A curated vintage subscription service called ‘Vintage Boxed‘ that was due to launch in September. I was intrigued and so I signed up to the email list and waited for the launch date.
Now, I have a very specific interest in true vintage and by that I mean… I’m picky. I am of course a lover of the 1940s and 1950s, but the whole boxy 90’s jumper or bold 80’s items don’t really interest me. It has to be the right style and right price for me – I have fallen in love with pieces as soon as I’ve seen them… but that happens quite rarely. That’s not to say I don’t appreciate the vintage pieces I have browsed in the past – they are just not for me! I just spent this last Saturday attending a vintage fair with a couple of like-minded ladies, and we had such a great time and found some amazing 1970’s dresses and in particular, an embroidered velvet 1980s jacket; but I have had the problem in the past for purchasing something because of how stunning it was, but I never wore it and ended up living in my wardrobe for a couple of years before letting it go. So yes, anyway, true vintage isn’t always ‘my thing’.
But, I was keen to give this subscription a go as it has a variety of boxes to choose from and was interested to see what I might receive!
They have three boxes to choose from –
The Classic Retro
‘A mix of classic vintage and retro. Prints, florals, geometric and everything in-between. Fab for all vintage loving gals.’
The Boho
‘A dreamy mix of vintage bohemia. Romantic florals, festival ready boho vintage & retro. Whimsical and wonderful. A vintage collection for free spirts and boho babes.’
The Nineties
‘A curated selection of pure 90’s vintage and retro. Clashing prints, denim, backpacks, 90’s mum fashion, grunge style dresses and more!’
I chose the Classic Retro, as it seemed to fit my style the most! The Vintage Boxed website offers different ways to subscribe – a one off box, a three monthly or a six monthly subscription. When selecting the desired box, the website asks you various questions about your preferred size, favourite eras, preferred vintage styles and shapes you like to wear. So, it certainly is personalised as much as possible.
Apart from a delay from the local postal service (thanks for the card through my door…oh wait, they never gave me one!!!), I finally got my hands on my unique vintage box. I will say, that the customer service from Vintage Boxed was exceptional and were happy to help sort me a new box if necessary! Luckily, mine did turn up.
So, in my parcel, I found a dress, blouse, bandana and a bag. They were all of good quality and had no faults (as some older items tend to have).
I decided not to talk too much about the bandana or the bag because they are useful accessories and honestly not much to write home about – but I will certainly be using them! If any of you have followed my blog for a while, you’ll know I do love a bandana so it is much appreciated! Plus, the bag is a decent size for evenings out and I also have a reasonably sized bag collection!
I think my favourite item from this ‘box’ is the blue dress. It hasn’t got a particular style to hint towards the era it was made in, but that actually makes it more wearable in day to day life, as the ‘classic retro’ box was described. It is a light, casual, relaxed dress, perfect for spring and has a pretty floral pattern. It also has cute cream button details (not pictured), as well as a tie-neck and tied sleeves.

The other item I received has actually been growing on me since it has been in my wardrobe. When I first saw the loud, red blouse, I instantly thought ‘I will never wear this!’, but is has now become something that I would love to wear… but I’m not sure when or how! If I had a desk job and needed some office wear, then this would be worn often, but as I often look for more daily wear, I’m just not sure.
I love the pussy-bow style and the fit of the blouse, but I’m now a bit torn!
Because of my postal delay, I’ve paused my subscription so I will not be receiving this one this month, but I am intrigued as to what I will find in my next box!
Do you wear true vintage? If so, I’d love to hear what your favourite piece is! My favourite you can read about here. Watch this space in November for my next box!
The red blouse looks fantastic on you!
